Printing Instructions
These are PostScript files, the most common file format for printable files.
For some reason, Microsoft does not include an application which can print
PostScript files with Windows! Therefore, if you are running Windows, you
will need to download and install PostScript support and a PostScript viewer
in order to print these TreeBooks.
-
Linux or Unix - If you have a duplexing printer, all you need to do
is enter `lpr <filename>' at the command line. Another method is to open
the file using Ghostview (gv). If you have a non-duplexing printer,
you will have to use Ghostview to select and print first the even
pages, turn the paper, then print the odd pages.
-
Apple MacIntosh - If you have a duplexing printer, just drag the file
icon onto the printer icon. If you have a non-duplexing printer, download and
install MacGSView, then follow the instructions in below in the second paragraph under Microsoft Windows.
-
Microsoft Windows - If you are using one of Microsoft's Windows
operating systems, then you'll need a set of programs called
Ghostscript and Ghostview.
These programs allow you to view and/or print Postscript files in Windows.
First, go the the page titled Obtaining AFPL Ghostscript 8.00. Scroll down to the
Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 or XP heading, and download the
self-extracting EXE files for AFPL Ghostscript (5.8MB) and GSview (1.2MB).
Once these are installed, you should be able to double-click on a TreeBook,
and it will open in GSview. If you have a duplexing (double-sided) printer,
just print the file. Otherwise, select "Custom" under "Pages to Print",
then select the "Even" pages, and print. Follow the instructions which came
with your printer to manually duplex by turning the pages over (usually
the short way) and reloading them into the input hopper. Then repeat the
"Custom" printing, this time selecting the "Odd" pages.
